Google Maps and FunParks

For this assignment, I chose to compare three of the more popular fun parks in Southern Maine. The three funparks that I choose to talk about are Funtown / Splashtown, Aquaboggen, and Seacoast Funpark. These parks do have hotels near them but some more than others. Funtown/Splashtown and Aquaboggen are both very close to each other allowing their to be some competition for customers and for hotels for people to stay afterwards a long day in the sun. Seaecoast is a little bit different than the other two. Seacoast fun park also contains a winter season which allows it to stay open year round.

While Seacoast does have the ability to stay open year round, they do not have as much hotels surrounding the area as the other two fun parks. There is a recently built hotel right across the street from the fun park and also along the snowmobiling trail which allows their to be fun for parents and others not just concentrated for children. While this is the only hotel in the area for miles, Seacoast fun park is in Windham, ME which tends to be a very touristy town when the peak times hit for the summer and winter due to the other attractions such as camping on the famous Sebago Lake or snowmobiling on the trails and ice fishing on said lake. Due to these types of activities there are a large quantity of smaller camps and camping areas for these types of activities. This being said, I do believe that it would be more beneficial if there were more places such as motels or hotels so that there could be a larger variety of people to be brought into the region. This would not only benefit Seacoast fun park but would also benefit the other surrounding shops.

Funtown/ Splashtown and Aquaboggen while competitors have a similar problem. Along with competing with each other, it is more common for tourist to stay at hotels or motels near Old Orchard beach where there is more to do regarding all ages of fun, rather than just a funpark. The distance between Old Orchard Beach and the two fun parks while not far, is too far for some to travel while they are vacationing on a beach already. This shows that Old Orchard is their biggest competitor to the area.

Overall, while there are hotels, motels, and camping areas that are near these fun parks, the competition of preferred tourist activities may be too much for the fun parks to keep up with such as what a typical Maine vacation may be.
